Horses for Heroes, Inc. is led by a dedicated team of military veterans with a passion for service. Abby and Dan, both Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technicians in the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Air Force, have devoted their lives to safeguarding others. After Dan's distinguished 27-year career in the Marine Corps, the couple returned to Florida’s panhandle to plant roots, raise their son, and pursue Abby's long-held dream of rescuing and rehabilitating horses.

Abby currently serves as a Federal Animal Care Inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, specializing in Horse Protection. This role aligns with her personal mission to rescue and rehabilitate horses in need. In 2022, they embarked on their rescue journey, starting with an Arabian mare from a Texas kill pen. Since then, Horses for Heroes, Inc. has rescued horses from Alabama, North Carolina, and Texas, now caring for 10 horses at their facility.

Longtime residents of Niceville, Florida, Abby and Dan are proud to call Okaloosa County home and are deeply committed to serving both the equine community and their local neighbors.

 Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate,  and provide lifelong care for horses in need, while simultaneously  serving our nation's veterans and first responders. Through our trail  riding programs, we aim to create meaningful experiences for our heroes,  offering them opportunities for healing, connection, and personal  growth in nature's embrace. By fostering bonds between these heroes and  our equine partners, we strive to empower individuals to overcome  challenges, rediscover joy, and build a supportive community that honors  their service and sacrifices and restores a sense of purpose. By  honoring the bond between humans and horses, we aim to create a  community where both species thrive, supporting each other on the  journey to healing and resilience. 

 Our  vision is to offer a sanctuary for neglected and abused horses, where  they find healing and purpose through rehabilitation. By leveraging the  therapeutic power of trail rides, we aim to create transformative  experiences for veterans and first responders, fostering connection with  nature, camaraderie, and emotional well-being. Through this unique bond  between humans and horses, we envision empowering our nations heroes to  rediscover strength, resilience, and a renewed sense of purpose,  forging a path towards healing and hope.
